One of the parts of the body many people consider a problem area is their neck. It can be easily injured in many ways. These can include long-term computer usage, sports, improper lifting, sleeping funny, or a multitude of other things. Many of us also carry a lot of tension in our necks. If done properly, a neck massage can help to rid yourself of the pain in your neck and also even help with chronic headache problems because several major nerves run through the back of the neck.

Today, neck massagers and other massaging products have come down in value to the point where everyone can own them and have a neck massage on their own time without having to schedule and appointment with a therapist. While you won't get all the same benefits of a professional massage, you can do it anytime you want and it saves you a great deal of money.

Using Neck Massagers

Neck massagers are no longer just confined to expensive items in Brookstone. Many are very affordable from different online merchants. Even though they’re very affordable many don’t skimp on features. They can offer benefits such as memory foam, soft covers, heat, variable speed, or a shiatsu massage cushion. You should attempt to find user reviews or attempt to find and try the product in a physical store before you buy it online however. Some neck massagers that give some people a great massage may not work as well on others because of different body shapes and types. And some may be made incredibly cheap and pretty much are just a vibrator inside a neck cushion and don’t apply any actual pressure or heat to your neck.

Performing Neck Massages

Going to a massage therapist is the best way to get a neck massage done, but if you can afford the time or money to do this, you can get many of the same benefits in the privacy of your own home.  This assumes you beg your partner enough to do it for you (or you want to earn extra points by doing it for him or her).  Follow these easy steps and your partner’s neck stress will be relieved in no time.

First, gently apply massage oil to the neck so you will have less friction and don’t risk pulling a muscle.  Starting at the base of the neck, push your hand upward, pushing down gently and focusing on stretching the muscle upwards towards the head.  When you find knots, there are several different options you can take to work them out.  You can press down on them with constant pressure, massage them in a circular motion, or stretch them in one direction until you break up the knots.  A combination of these three tactics usually works best.  Turn the head to both the left and the right and massage the left and right sides while the head is turned.  Finish off with a quick massage of the shoulder area.  When you’re in the process of working on the muscles, make sure your hands follow them the whole way to where they stop for the full benefit.

Two things you have to be aware of when giving a neck massage however.  Do not rush or be too aggressive, this can result in strained muscles and your partner being even worse off than they were to begin with!  Make sure that your partner relaxes as well.  If their muscles are too tight, this could result in a strain as well.

A Professional Neck Massage

Neck massagers have become very affordable in recent years.  They still can’t compete with the gentle touch of a massage therapist, but you can use them whenever you can, whether it be at work, home, or even in the car on long road trips.  They are available in many different formats, styles, and options, so make sure to look at several of them before you make your final choice of which one you would like to buy.

You gave some important tips here as the neck can be easily misplaced with too hard pressure.

I'd like a neck massage right now...the lady in video was so relaxed.
